Album Review: Frankmusik

Frankmusik
‘Complete Me’
(Island)

When Frankmusik, AKA Vincent Frank, got dumped, he set about making himself feel better by manufacturing these 45 minutes of upbeat, shiny and gloriously camp disco – this was before he cheered himself up by snaring Holly Valance on the rebound. And whilst Frank does bat for the right team in the pop game of shameful vs. interesting, he lacks the artful imagination of contemporaries such as La Roux and Little Boots. For the most part, tracks such as ‘Better Off As Two’ are cleverly catchy, lyrically thoughtful and well worth a listen but missteps are made with the ‘Golden Brown’-aping ‘When You’re Around’ and ‘Vacant Heart’, in which Frankmusik loses his cool completely, surrendering to the evil powers of the cheesy break-up ballad.
