The Victorian English Gentlemens Club
‘Love On An Oil Rig’
(This Is Fake DIY)

TVEGC have gone through a label and a drummer change since their last album and have also added an extra member to the band, the result of which is this, twelve tracks of frantic, eccentric and flamboyantly unhinged noise. Softened only by the occasional bleat from the female backing singers, tracks such as ‘Bored In Belgium’ and ‘Worker’ are screaming toddlers of songs which repetitively whack their rattles against your throbbing head. Respite occasionally comes at the beginning of quieter number such as ‘Periscope Envy’ but it’s not long before the racket ensues; with songs often end abruptly and messily. TVEGC do well to combine the dark clatter of Eighties Matchbox with the artier moments of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. If you like your music to sound like an art school experiment involving a circular saw and a washing machine full of nails, ‘Love On An Oil Rig’ is definitely the album for you.
