Pixie Lott
‘Turn It Up’
(Mercury)
As if the Geldof one wasn’t enough, we now have another blonde teen tabloid icon named Pixie. Whoop-de-woo. But this time - she sings! At the delicate age of 18, Pixie Lott’s here to deliver our yoof a mixture of the dark drama of Winehouse, the glamour of Duffy and the kitsch appeal of Katy Perry - please note that ‘Turn It Up’ should not be listened to by anyone under the age of 16 since all it’s about is the varying shades of teenage romance from the initial crush (‘Mama Do’) to the my-dads-going-to-beat-you-up tantrum (‘Cry Me Out’ and ‘Turn It Up’). To her credit, she does write all her own songs, but with one line honkers such as “I got your emails/you just don’t get females” she’s surely no Bronte. It’s not exciting, it’s not particularly new but it is essentially fun, easy, bubblegum pop fodder for the Bratz generation.
