As soon as there’s a whiff off
A burst of Reggae-style melodies and bass carves into our heads, invoking some ferocious toe-tapping, while the drums seem to be the only thing that’s holding this madness together. There is so much going on between the three of them that it’s impossible to keep up, but somehow their timing is faultless. They tickle the crowd with some adept banter, before launching into another blast of fast paced edgy rock/pop, jammed full of catchy guitar hooks and rhythms. There’s even a great instrumental section, which just cements their incredible talent.
They also plug their new single, ‘Hey Housebrick’, released on 16th May via “all good record shops” according to the band, who then segue into some more banter about Asda’s CD selection and ‘Smart Price Beans’.
“Hey Housebrick are you sitting in a building/Are you resting in a hand/waiting for a windscreen” buzzes the chorus, raising another round of smirks in the audience. Overall, a brilliant song which really gets stuck in your head, but that can be said about most of Hot Club de Paris’ good-time fare. You can really image yourself laying back in the summer at a festival, JD in hand, listening to these. A great summery and bouncy trio, with some brilliant songs.
