Heroes Of Switzerland

London Bull & Gate

27/03/08

"Come and buy our record if you like!", exhorts chief Hero Ian, "or, if you're being bastards, you can always nick it off the internet". Truly, the struggle with badness is an ongoing concern for new bands, but the Heroes Of Switzerland have, oh yes, come to save the day. Or the yet-to-significantly-sparkle pile of fireworks that is nu-gaze, at any rate. See, they may deal more in cosy amiability than actual rawkish charisma, but, good lord, when they take hold they're a thing of incandescent and positively indecent violence, playing perfectly lovely little melodies that are just shuffling into their pop stride when someone comes in and starts doing the hoovering, a la, say, 'Soon' or 'Sweetness And Light'. If anything, it's an even more noble endeavour than it seems on the amazing-nonetheless album 'Comfort In Fear', and, needless to say, it leads to raptures all round; a few more victories like this, and there's nothing to stop the year being effectively theirs...
