‘LES Artistes’

(Atlantic Records)

'L.E.S. Artistes' is a metaphorical crutch of a song, propping up the most withered of hearts and making its air-time omnipresence absolutely welcomed. Written in a time of darkness for Santogold, 'L.E.S. Artistes' is about dealing with the death of her father whilst lost in a chic and shallow part of Brooklyn, trying to seek beauty from underneath all of the “name droppers” and “forced fakers”. Lyrically, it is like she’s convincing herself that everything will be fine, it reeks of loneliness and insecurity but those crashing drums, cosmic keys and incessant 80’s guitar strums give it that light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel glory that all good pop songs should be glued together with.
